Giclée Printing refers to a printmaking method that involves using a digitised image outputted from a computer to a large format inkjet printer. The term “giclee” is derived from the French for “spray” and was first coined by Jack Duganne, a printmaker, to represent an inkjet-based digital print used as fine art.
To qualify for the title of a “fine art giclée print” it should be made on archival quality coated paper, and printed with pigment-based archival inks, which are UV stable. The Fine Art Trade Guild has set minimum standards for a giclee print – it must score 6 or more on the Blue Wool Scale for light fastness, with an acidity level of between pH7 and pH9, to minimise discolouring.

Have A Cigar was inspired by a photograph I had seen by the legendary photographer Alex Webb it shows a girl walking down with what looks like a fish over her head. The second was one of the images in the Baz Luhrmann video for Sunscreen, for whatever reason this got me thinking. Then one night listening to the Pink Floyd album Wish You Were Here there is a track Have A Cigar so Have A Cigar came to life. I have a friend at Bury Fish & Meat market after a chat we came up with two options a Salmon or Hake head.
I wanted to make the Hake look like it was smoking a cigar so I got my friend David from Driftwood Studio a creative group in which I’m a Director and we came up with an idea on how to make it look like it was smoking this cigar. The was a pipe down its mouth that was fed out of the backdrop and David smoked the cigar we had a lot of fun putting this all together.
